Its July and the Monsoons are just around the corner or at least that’s what I am hoping. We Delhites know what a big blessing  these showers are. these showers give the much needed respite from the blistering and scorching heat. The poet in me came alive and I penned down few verses….

Ah! Those heavenly monsoons!!

Rhythmic sound of pittering-pattering on my window pane,

drew me to the little balcony of my home,

exposing me to the breath taking view of nature,

as dark clouds opened their floodgates,

heavenly monsoons descended on to the earth,

in the form of thin sheets,

drenching every single thing it could find on its way,

injecting a new lease of life in to bare, withered, downcast trees,

cool, refreshing currents of breeze rejuvenated me,

I witnessed various hues of colors getting splashed around,

enticing roses, lovely daisies and fragrant jasmines,

images

perfumed the air around me,

swaying trees, dripping leaves dancing in joy,

let out a silent grateful prayer to the rain gods for the much needed showers

cute little kids pranced around,

occasionally jumping into puddles of muddy water,

not at all bothered about their stained clothes,

and the scolding they will get from their mothers,

happiness and relief writ large on their faces,

bigger boys enjoying a nice muddy, fast paced football match,

laughing, kicking and splashing around,

sipping their tea quietly and nibbling on the hot pakoras,

taking in this beautiful show put by the nature,

are the elders of the family,

I don’t know for how may hours I stood there,

a smile played on my lips,

Ahh! what a wonderful feast has been prepared by mother nature

for this lucky eyes of mine….

This poem might be silly for some after all I am no Donne or Yeats but it captures the thoughts formed in my grey cells. It captures that essence and that’s why it is one of my favorite poems. I will share some more of my self-composed-favorite poems through this platform. I hope you guys like it and let me know if you have any suggestion for my skills by leaving comments…
